Lazards in a league of its own

Lazard Brothers was the leading adviser on hostile takeover bids in the UK in 1995 and 1996. It advised on four such deals, at a value totalling 15.7 billion pounds sterling. Four bids were also handled by SBC Warburg, while Lehman Brothers was involved in three successful attacks. Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and Baring Brothers were the only other advisers to be involved in more than one successful attack in 1995 and 1996.

Another one bites the dust as ECI sells to Rothschilds
Article Abstract:
NM Rothschild, a merchant bank, acquired a 5% share in ECI Ventures, an independent buy out huse, in summer 1995, and this led to a full blown acquisition for an undisclosed sum. ECI Ventures has 220 million pounds sterling under management and the acquisition has given it credibility in international fund raising markets.

Article Abstract:
Lazard Brothers, a merchant bank, is successful in advising corporate raids, and has led four of the 10 largest hostile bids finalised since the start of 1994. It advised Glaxo on the 9.1 billion pounds sterling Wellcome offer and it lead hostile bids for London Weekend Television and Forte.
