Learning, knowledge acquisition, and strategic alliances
Article Abstract:
Companies have to constantly increase their knowledge base if they are to remain competitive. One way of increasing knowledge is by forming alliances. However, care must be taken to maximize the learning potential of these alliances. One partner must be prepared to share its knowledge with the other. Sometimes knowledge is difficult to share, such as how and why companies know what they do. Firms must also accept that other companies may know more than they do. Exposing staff to knowledge does not mean they will absorb it so systems must be set up to facilitate effective learning.
