Lebanon sets up toll road company
Article Abstract:
The Toll Road Company, in the Lebanon, has been set up by the Investment Development Authority to build a motorway from Beirut to the Syrian border, at a cost of $800 million, a ring road around Beirut and a motorway to the north of Beirut. The total cost is expected to be US$1.2 billion. The Toll Road Company will be listed on the stock exchange. European companies which had been negotiating to get contracts to build these projects were not able to raise enough capital and had expressed concerns that the monies from the tolls would be inadequate to maintain the roads.

US private toll projects proliferate
Article Abstract:
More than 24 companies sought copies of the Arizona department of transport Request for Proposal (RFP) for the South Mountain tollway project in Pheonix. Also the state assembly transportation committee of California has approved and expanded private tollways law which will remove restrictions on the number of projects, and allow joint public-private financing. Minnesota department of transport has accepted Interwest's Highway 212 project to be developed as a nonprofit corporation.

Financing vehicle for Nova Scotia road
Article Abstract:
Construction on the Nova Scotia Highway 104 toll-road has begun before the signing of all major agreements, due to the short construction season and the need to complete the road before winter 1997. The new road is part of the Trans Canada Highway and is the first infrastructure project with backing from both the public and private sector.
