Linux loot
Article Abstract:
Linux companies have become popular among investors, and this has led to concern among those who favor open source methods. Linux companies tend to offer services to link commercial users and software that hackers have developed for their own needs. These companies have not shown their ability to make money. Red Hat has set up a center to foster open-source research. Linux can be developed further with funds raised by Linux companies, and this could intensify competition for Microsoft.

Article Abstract:
Proverb is a software system that solves crosswords using information from the World Wide Web. Proverb has some 30 expert modules which can each solve particular clue types. The modules generate answers that separate software then seeks to fit. Proverb has been developed by a team from Duke University, North Carolina, headed by Michael Littman. Proverb can solve crosswords better than many humans, and better than the men who designed the software.
