Local Legend takes lead over rivals in China's PC market

Legend Holdings has acquired a considerable share of China's personal computer (PC) market by outperforming its international rivals, including IBM and Compaq. With a 17% hold on the local PC market, Legend boasts of 45% increase in revenue for Jun 1999. The company further recorded considerable net income gains, increasing its stake from 12.5 to 15.9 Hong Kong cents a share. Legend acquires leverage from its highly-affordable products, which feature the latest computer technology.

China.com looks poised to cast its web on the region

Hong Kong-based Internet firm China.com Corp has garnered positive feedback from Asia's analysts because of the potential profitability of the company's three businesses. China.com, aside from being an Internet access provider, also sets up World Wide Web connections and sells advertising for Web sites. While China.com's three related businesses have yet to turn in a profit, the strategic positioning of the firm in a fast growing industry has earned it the nod of analysts.

Secretive bid for technology?
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's real estate deal with Pacific Century Group has elicited criticism from some sectors. Hong Kong has granted a tract of land to Pacific Century that the real estate developer would turn into 2,500 luxury housing units. In exchange for the land, Pacific Century will construct a high technology park called Cyberport which it will turn over to the Hong Kong government. The deal was criticized because of the secretive way with which the government struck the deal.
