Location and sizing of offshore platforms for oil exploration
Article Abstract:
The problem of location and sizing of offshore platforms for oil exploration is modeled as an integer programming multicapacitated plant location problem. Redundant constraints that yield stronger continuous relaxation and generate sharp lower bounds allow the application of a general-purpose integer programming code to medium-size problems, while a Tabu search heuristic is usedfor larger problems. Results show the feasibility of using extended lists of forbidden movements and variable size tabu lists to minimize computation time and improve the quality of solutions. The model is being used with plans for expansion by the Brazilian state-owned PETROBRAS.
