Location of an undesirable facility in a polygonal region with forbidden zones
Article Abstract:
A method for identifying locations of undesirable facilities within a polygonal region with forbidden zones was developed. The method, which uses Euclidean distances, aims to locate facilities that poses a threat to health and welfare such as prisons, polluting plants and solid waste repositories. Objectives include the optimization of the minimum distance of the undesirable facility and the sum of the distances from the undesirable facilities to the population centers. Results show that undesirable facilities are found in polynomial time.

A multiobjective programming model for locating treatment sites and routing hazardous wastes
Article Abstract:
A multiobjective model was used to determine disposal or treatment facilities and transporting hazardous waste along the connection of a transportation network. Some points of this network may be population centers producing toxic waste which must be transported to the treatment facilities. The study considered four objectives including minimisation of total operating cost and minimisation of total perceived risk. A goal programming model was developed to solve the problem.

A multi-modal approach to the location of a rapid transit line
Article Abstract:
A new bicriterion model can design a decision support system that can provide a more realistic evaluation of the rapid transit line (RTL) in terms of costs and benefits of the various line paths. The model developed a k-shortest path algorithm to evaluate an estimation of the non-inferior solution set of the problem. The method was employed to a popular sample problem and results were compared with those obtained using a Median Shortest Path model.
