Article Abstract:
Increasing children's consumption of zinc or vitamin A can boost their immunity to malaria, according to research undertaken at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Neither zinc nor vitamin A are as effective as anti-malarial drugs at preventing malaria, but they are less expensive. Research is now to be undertaken in Ghana into whether greater protection against malaria can be achieved by combining vitamin A and zinc.

Limited imagination: drug firms
Article Abstract:
The drug industry is not spending enough money on developing a malaria vaccine. There are malaria pills that can combat or prevent the disease, but they are expensive and many malaria victims are too poor to buy them. Varying strains and mosquitos' resistance to drugs further complicate the issue.
