Global fund houses have been removing money from the Asian region due to increased risk. Four fund houses, including Foreign and Colonial Emerging Markets, Schroder Investment Management, M and G Investment Management, and Pictet and Cie comment on Asia's place in the global investment order and what will be necessary for them to return to the region.

Lotus sees profit in private investment in listed firms: money manager offers funds using PIPES strategy in hopes of making gains above 30%

Investment firm Lotus Asset Management is offering investors a new means of profiting in the Asian financial market, using the private investment in public equities or PIPES stragegy. Lotus officials Felix D'Souza and Paul Phelby believe that the PIPES strategy can give investors a return of about 30% on investments. One of their vehicle is a South Korean hedge fund, hoping that the country's economic recovery would allow investors significant profits. They are planning to extend the instrument to other Asian countries whose economies are on the road to recovery.

Regional downturn opens opportunities for new funds: many products buy equity stakes from well-run companies poised for recovery

Asian recovery mutual funds are expected to be offered to restructuring companies or distressed debt entities which will serve as cushions against the Asian economic crisis. These funds purchase equity stakes or bonds from companies who have potentials of recovering from the economic downturn. Examples of these funds are Rothschild Asset Management, Ashmore Investment Management, Indocam Asset Management and Pacific Regent Fund Management Ltd.
