Lucent confirms plan to purchase INS

Lucent Technologies Inc. acknowledged that it will acquire International Network Services Inc. for $3.7 billion (3.45 billion euros). The move is an attempt by Lucent to expand its operations beyond the communications equipment industry. Lucent wants to expand into the network servicing and design industries. The deal represents Lucent's 27th acquisition.
