Marriage of convenience
Article Abstract:
UK architectural practice Hurley Robertson is thriving in spite of its somewhat unlikely start in 1993 as a marriage of convenience between John Hurley and John Robertson. Hurley's aim was to find a way of continuing the practice of Denys Lasdun, Peter Softley & Associates: Sir Denys Lasdun is a consultant to Hurley Robertson but retains his independence. Hurley Robertson manages to combine commercial practicality with good design, and it aims to boost design standards. Its success has been due partly to good contacts.

History in context
Article Abstract:
Architectural firm John McAslan and Partners has developed a strong reputation for designing intelligent, expressive buildings. The firm has become involved with a range of historic buildings and sensitive contexts. It is working to present the lost city of Volubilis, located near Fez, Morocco, more effectively to visitors, and has used its typical highly detailed work at Esavian House, a 1930s warehouse in High Holborn, London, England, converted for publishing firm Thames & Hudson.

Art of the possible
Article Abstract:
Many of the UK's top theatre and arts buildings have been designed or refurbished by the Arts Team which specializes in buildings connected with the arts. Architects working for the Arts Team have to have a specialist knowledge of the requirements of art buildings, basing their knowledge of first-hand experience. The Arts Team is critical of the method for allotting National Lottery grants for arts projects, which it claims are often too large and unnecessary.
