Article Abstract:
Researchers from Deutsches Elektronen-Synchroton, Hamburg, Germany, are seeking to develop X-ray lasers. A team, headed by Jorg Rossbach, is making progress in developing such a device, which could be called a xaser. Radiation can be amplified through electrons radiating in unison in a beam. There are plans in the US and Germany to produce xasers with a length of several kilometers. Protein molecules can explode in the beam from such a device, so it is better than they are relatively large.
