Pension funds may find Taiwan to be more attractive than South Korea. US-based fund managers who visited Taiwan in search of investment opportunities noted that government reforms to open financial markets and long-term infrastructure projects serve as lures to foreign investors. Taiwan has also announced its plan to lift all foreign equity investment restrictions by the year 2000.

Merger trims more fat from Taiwan's airline industry; China Airlines, which owns 90% of new entity, now can focus on major international routes
Article Abstract:
The merger between Formosa Airlines, which is 40% owned by China Airlines, and Mandarin Airlines will solve the problem of overcapacity for Taiwan's airline industry. It will also be a part of the restructuring process that China Airlines has already started. After the merger, the formed entity, which will be named Mandarin Airlines, will concentrate on intra-Asia and domestic services while China Airlines will focus on international long-haul flights.
