Merit pay, responsibility, and national values: a U.S.-Taiwan comparison
Article Abstract:
The article compares how employers in Taiwan and the United States judge and reward work performance. Americans, being individualists, reduce merit pay to poor performers while Taiwanese employers, as collectivists, tend to reward more workers, including failing employees, to promote group harmony.
