New president of Nissan faces daunting challenge

Yoshikazu Hanawa faces a number of challenges as the new president of Nissan Motor Co. He assumes his position at a time when the company will post its fourth consecutive annual loss estimated at $794.5 million for the year ended Mar. 31, 1996. Hanawa also has to deal with labor problems in Spain and the peso crisis in Mexico while developing ways to remain competitive against rival automakers in Japan.

Rising car sales in Japan spark demolition derby of ads among local, foreign manufacturers
Article Abstract:
Many foreign and domestic car manufacturers are intensifying their advertising campaigns in light to the significant growth in car sales in 1995. Compared to 1994, car advertising increased by 2.5% totaling about $2.5 billion in 1995. Foreign manufacturers are hard pressed to develop more creative and targeted campaigns because of their smaller advertising budgets.
