Spain's fortunes improved dramatically during the 80's, as its democracy stabilized after the death of Franco and its economy became the fastest growing one in Europe. Spaniards feel very good about their home and hope that it can take a place among Europe's upper echelon.

Manuel Elizalde
Article Abstract:
Manuel Elizalde, the man who discovered the isolated Tasaday tribe in Cotabato, Philippines, died at age 60 on May 3, 1997. Elizalde, heir to a thriving Philippine industrial firm, later became the Philippines minister in charge of minority policy.

Manuel Fraga

Manuel Fraga, who was re-elected as premier of Spain's Galicia region on Oct 21, 2001, has had a varied political life. Fraga was a minister under Franco, but claims his greatest achievement was helping Spain survive after the civil war.
