Money against money
Article Abstract:
The presidential hopefuls for the 1992 Philippine elections who appear to be most favored by the business community are Fidel Ramos and Ramon Mitra. Ramos' appeal to the traders lies in his steady and reliable image, while Mitra's drawing power stems from his diplomatic working style. On the other hand, candidate Eduardo Cojuangco is eyed warily by businessmen because of his record of using political power to grant trade concessions to cronies and to gain personal control of industries.

Article Abstract:
Philippine President Corazon Aquino's endorsement of Fidel Ramos for the presidency is widely considered as a reward for the former defense secretary's role in preserving Aquino's administration. Ramos' selection and his formation of a new political party, EDSA-LDP Party of the Philippines, has caused further defections within Ramon Mitra's ruling Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino.

Article Abstract:
Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos and his party, the Lakas-NUCD, are forced to look for a successor in the upcoming elections, with the failure of the term-extension campaigns. Ramos and partymates may look for an outsider, possibly Sen. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, as a potential successor due to the weak and unpopular line-up of 'presidentiables' in the party.
