More of Harris's hatchet?
Article Abstract:
Ontario prime minister, Mike Harris, faces an election in Jun 1999. He believes he is likely to be returned for a second term to continue his policies of tax cuts and changes to the school, health care and welfare systems. He is performing well in opinion polls, but this is no guarantee that he will win. He has cut provincial income taxes and the budget deficit, but job creation has much to do with the strength of the US economy. The New Democrats plan to raise taxes and tackle the problem of rising homelessness, while Harris plans a further tax reduction.

A sorry state
Article Abstract:
Public spending levels are high in Brazil, while the social returns are disappointing. Public sector employees are treated generously for a poor country, and pension provision is especially generous. The economy will benefit from privatization over the longer term, and this is especially true for telecoms. The government has to reform public spending over the long term, and not just bring in emergency measures. States have started to cut their costs, and have also increased pension contributions.

Today we have the naming of parts
Article Abstract:
Scientists may be logical in their research methods, but such logic tends not to spill over into naming discoveries such as space rocks and new elements. Disputes have arisen between the US and Russia over names for elements. Astronomers are able to name more objects and often use complex names. Biologists may use the binominal scheme which can create problems when reclassifications occur. The Linnaen system allows the creation of names thar can be easily remembered.
