Greenspan has been credited with keeping inflation low during his eight years at the helm of the Federal Reserve Board. He now faces confirmation for his third term, and needs to address structural reform of the FED, which could further his reputation as a good administrator.

Metrologists would like the kilogram to be defined in terms of invariable natural phenomena so that scientists everywhere can ensure the kilogram unit they use is standard. Various methods for counting the atoms in a kilogram of material are discussed.
