TO MANY QUESTIONS
Article Abstract:
Sources say that the Sahara Group has mobilised deposits of over Rs3000 crore with people from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh collectively depositing Rs150 crore every month with the group's three parabanking companies. Mr Subrata Roy, chairman of the Lucknow-based group, has planned investments of Rs7000 crore by 2001 AD. This includes two housing projects, a mass transit system for Lucknow, detergents and apparel under the Sahara brand and the acquisition of a dozen aircraft for the Sahara Airlines. Details as to how the group will mobilise the funds for the expansion are not easy to get as almost all the two dozen and odd group companies are closely- held. (khr)
