Multi-echelon systems: a service measure perspective
Article Abstract:
The complexity of analyzing divergent multi-echelon systems with respect to supply costs and external customer service differs according to the type of policy used to control supply chains. For installation stock policies, the problems are in finding the delay time characteristics and the demand process at upstream stages. For echelon stock policies, the difficulties pertain to the imbalance problem and divergent systems with lot sizing. These conclusions are borne out by research work on the subject between 1976 and 1996.

A model for a mixed continuous-periodic review one-warehouse, n-retailer inventory system
Article Abstract:
The problem of a two-echelon, single-warehouse, n-retailer inventory system is considered for the case of a single perishable item. Specifically, an approximate analytical model to account for two stochastic components, namely, the delay in order delivery when the item is out of stock and an order processing delay. Based on the use of renewal theory for deriving warehouse demand variance, it characterizes the retailers' behavior 'as following a (nQ,r,T) policy of order review.

Multi-item inventory control: a multicriteria view
Article Abstract:
The multicriteria mono-item inventory control model is introduced. Based the concept of efficient policy curves, the model was derived in the course of consultancy work with a French public transport company with over 100,000 items in stock. It involves the classification of items into coherent families based on their attributes and obtaining an aggregate item to represent the different goods in a family.
