Dr Reddy's Laboratories generated 40 percent of its turnover from brands launched in the past five years, Nise, Stamlo and Stamlobeta. Antibiotics account for 19 percent of its portfolio, anti-ulcerants 24 percent, antihypertensives 24 percent and analgesics 18 percent. Sales had increased by 32 percent in 1997- 98. Net profit had declined due to losses on investment and expenses on brand acquisitions. It has shifted its focus in exports to formulations from bulk drugs. Dr Reddy's Research Foundation has several patents pending in the in anti-cancer and the anti-diabetes segments. It bought brands like Riflux, Clamp and Becelac in 1997. Its halogen lamps business is a loss making venture. It has three facilities near Hyderabad. Its fourth unit was commissioned at Bachepalli, near Hyderabad. CHEMINOR DRUGS POSTS 416% RISE IN Q2 NET

Cheminor Drugs has recorded a 416 percent higher net profit at Rs3.76 crore for the second quarter ended September 1998. Its exports revenue increased to Rs39.09 crore (Rs19.44 crore in the corresponding period of 1997). Its domestic sales amounted to Rs14.39 crore taking the total sales to Rs53.48 crore (Rs31.23 crore). The other income is Rs2.56 crore (Rs60 lakh). Its expenditure is Rs43.23 crore (Rs25.87 crore). It has provided Rs2.78 crore (Rs2.22 crore) for depreciation and Rs11.32 lakh for tax. (rk)
