NEW HAL SIMULATOR TO CUT ACCIDENT RATES
Article Abstract:
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd is negotiating with a few software firms for a joint venture to develop basic cockpit simulators in order to reduce the rate of air accidents. The basic simulator is to be used by both the Indian Air Force (IAF) and domestic flying schools and is expected to cost Rs15 lakh per unit. Sources say that the market potential for such simulators in the next 2-3 years is about Rs100 crore. The simulators used by the IAF now are outdated and use software developed decades ago. The cost of modernising and replacing the existing simulators is estimated at over Rs1000 crore. (khr)
