NO SPACE FOR INDIAN GARMENTS IN EC WARDROBE
Article Abstract:
Indian textile garments, worth over Rs700 crore, have been held up in various ports and stopped from entering the European markets. The European Commission (EC) contends that the 1998 quota for the Indian garments has been exhausted. It has rejected the Government of India's appeal to transfer these garments against the 1999 quota. Over 1.2 million pieces of garments were exported under the quota for women's garments and trousers in December 1998. The Indian Textile Ministry plans to send a high-level delegation from the Apparel Export Promotion Council to Brussels to solve the problem. (ag)(psr)
