NTL Inc. will purchase three British cable-TV operators in two separate deals for a total of 940 million pound sterling or US$1.54 billion. The bigger deal includes the purchase of two cable properties in Britain owned by the Dutch national phone carrier, Koninglijke PTT Nederland NVC or KPN, for 550 million pound sterling, mostly in cash. The other deal includes the acquisition of Diamond Cable Communications PLC, the majority of which is owned by Goldman, Sachs & Co. for 390 million pound sterling in stock.
