Nebraska's Kool-Aid test
Article Abstract:
Hastings, Nebraska, has an unemployment rate of 1.7%, like the state of Nebraska, and is seeking to attract labor by marketing itself as a center of old-fashioned virtues. Kool-Aid was invented in Hastings in 1927, and Hastings is celebrating a Kool-Aid day in Aug 1998. The inventor of Kool-Aid later moved to Chicago, and his company was sold to General Foods, which was to merge with Kraft. Traditions are important in the US, including traditions that are imagined, and Kool-Aid could attract new workers for Nebraska.

Screen test
Article Abstract:
Yorkshire Television has a newsroom and studio in a converted ice rink. The conversion was originally intended to house the news room and technical services but a change in format necessitated the inclusion of a studio. Architect, Building Design Partnership, specified a raised studio with a heavy duty floor, partial glazing and suspended ceiling to improve the acoustics. Further noise reduction was achieved by using baffles on the newsroom ceiling and walls.
