British insurance companies and pension funds are investing more in real estate, recognizing the durability of such investments. Profits made from rental yields can be high and safe. Optimists are recognizing the higher returns on retail property, which have increased from 29% to 39%.

No free lunch: British banks
Article Abstract:
Retail banking in the UK has been forced by the recession to try for more profits. To beat higher service fees, customers may choose cheaper services such as ATMs. Banks in the US are also charging higher retail rates. Both Bank of America and Wells Fargo have increased service fees.

French shareholders v British creditors
Article Abstract:
In Japan and Germany shareholders and lawyers concentrate on preserving employees and equity by trying to bail out failing firms. In France, creditors have little say in how a bankrupt firm restructures, but in Great Britain creditors control the whole procedure.
