Fund companies are marketing new mutual funds products in Asia that are based on a globalization theme. Templeton Asset Management Ltd. is marketing a global high yield bond in Singapore while Jardine Fleming Unit Trusts Ltd. is marketing a similar product in Hong Kong. Fidelity Investments Management (HK) Ltd is marketing a global diversification fund while ED&F Man Investment Products (Hong Kong) Ltd is marketinga global managed futures fund. Company officials note that the demand for such products have grown in Asia, with the need to divert investments from regional uncertainties.

Embracing 3rd-party funds: banks are following Standard Chartered's lead

Standard Chartered Bank is leading a trend in Asian banking for selling third-party funds to customers. Third-party funds marketing by banks in Asia was started by Citicorp, which started selling the funds in the early 1990s, but Standard Chartered became the best in marketing the funds, with as many as 8,000 funds available to customers. Standard Chartered officials believe that the service is in line with their objective of offering full-service banking. Many funds are marketing their products through banks since they have the marketing network and budget for the product.
