Hornets undertake first NATO Swiss role
Article Abstract:
The Swiss Air Force used a fleet of three F/A-18C/D Hornets for an unprecedented participation in a full-scale NATO tactical exercise. The participation of the traditionally neutral nation was called for by a bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the Netherlands. The Swiss Hornets flew over the North Sea out of Leeuwarden Air Base, the Netherlands, as part of a two-week integrated combat training. In addition to the Hornets, other aircraft that participated included UK Royal Air Force Tornado F.3s and Harrier GR.7s and German Navy Tornado maritime strike aircraft.
