Article Abstract:
The Cuban public health system suffers from lack of funds and equipment, though it is well supplied with physicians, and Cuban medical research has been a successful export. US sanctions have affected the availablity of medical supplies, but lack of funds is also a cause, and means that physicians' pay is low. Cuban health services focus on prevention, and Cuban infant mortality and life expectancy rates are exceptionally good, which indicates that the primary health care system is performing well.
