CHAD: VIVENDI TO TAKE STAKE IN STEE
Article Abstract:
The Chad authorities are going to privatise the water and electricity distribution services. They will create a new company, the Societe Tchadienne d'Electricite et de l'Eau (STEE), which will have FFr 10mn in capital. The government will control its capital and it will get a 30-year concession contract. As part of this privatisation, Vivendi Water has obtained a management contract for a minimum of two years. Then Vivendi will undertake to put a new electrical power station at N'Djamena into service, and to operate it. At the end of this transition period, Vivendi Water will take a majority stake in STEE.

BRAZIL: SUEZ-LYONNAISE DES EAUX'S GOALS

The French group Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux says that it is willing to invest more in Brazil's energy, water, waste treatment, and communications sectors. Nevertheless, the group wants the decision-making system between the country's states and municipalities to be clarified; it also wants a greater vision of long-term security. Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux is already present in Brazil in the energy and waste treatment sectors of Brazil, particularly at Sao Paulo, and in the water sector at Rio de Janeiro, and at Bahia and Manaus.

OMAN: POWER STATIONS AND DESALINATION PLANTS
Article Abstract:
The Sultanate of Oman, has issued invitations to tender concerning putting electric power stations and desalinisation plants into service in the Sultanate's regions, through The Tender Board (http://www.tenderboard.gov.om). This invitation to tender, financed by the Ministry's own funds, requires local representation. The specifications may be obtained before 31 January 2001. Bids must be tendered by 19 February 2001. There is a submission deposit of 5% of the value of the bid.
