Regulators in Italy have declared Telecom Italia SpA's proposed acquisition of TeleMonteCarlo unlawful. Telecom Italia has proposed to acquire TeleMonteCarlo for 750 billion lire (387 million euros).

Olivetti seeks to build on turnaround with $58 billion offer for Telecom Italia
Article Abstract:
Olivetti SpA has made a $58 billion offer to acquire Telecom Italia. However, Telecom has said that it would oppose the takeover. This could set the stage for one of the biggest acquisition battles in Europe. The chairman of Olivetti, Antonio Tesone, said that Telecom lacks strong stockholders who are willing to properly manage Italy's former telecommunications monopoly. Olivetti was near collapse just two years ago.
