From process to procession
Article Abstract:
A peace agreement for Northern Ireland includes provision for the setting up of a new legislature and cross-border structures linking Northern Ireland with Ireland. The agreement has to include Sinn Fein, which accounts for 17% of the vote. The Social Democratic and Labor Party helped the peace process to take off by starting talks with Sinn Fein. Unionists have changed their views covertly, with some calling for links between Ireland and Northern Ireland. The difficult task will start after the referendum on the agreement, and after assembly elections have been held.

In Gerry we trust?
Article Abstract:
The task of the Ulster Unionists in Northern Ireland in deciding whether to cooperate with Sinn Fein is linked to a decision on whether Sinn Fein can be trusted. Sinn Fein has avoided the issue of the disarmament of the Irish Republican Army during the peace process in Northern Ireland. There has been progress on the issue of disarmament, and an agreement would allow the unionists to consolidate gains, while recognising that Sinn Fein also has a right to take part in government due to the votes that it commands.
