On hold
Article Abstract:
Much of Poland's industry has not been privatized, and the industrial base of the country is weakening. State-owned enterprises account for over 40% of manufacturing employment, some 33% of industrial sales, and 5% of profits, and do not have the resources to invest. Some progress has been made on sales in 1998, since Poland aims to join the European Union. Nationalism has been one obstacle to privatization in Poland. There are particular problems in agribusiness, where plant is often antiquated.
