Operational research in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
Operations research (OR) did not flourish in Czechoslovakia after World War II due to government suspicions about western econometric methods. Despite this, the field was taught under different names at Charles University and the University of Economics. The 1989 Velvet Revolution and the subsequent split of the country into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, however, led to the split of the Czechoslovakia Society for Operations Research and, in some cases, weakened OR in the country.
