SANSUI ROLLS OUT DIGITAL TV, FIRMS UP VIDEOCON TIE-UP

Sansui Electric Company (SEC) has confirmed its tie up with Videocon International and has decided to continue its alliance with the company for its product distribution. SEC will launch its new generation Digital 100 colour televisions (CTVs). The 29- inch Digital 100 CTV is offered for Rs59,000. The television uses a 100 Hz scan system. SEC has announced two new schemes. Under the first scheme, it will offer a 54 cm Sansui CTV, a washing machine and a Whirlpool refrigerator for Rs23,900. Under its second scheme, it will offer a 63 cm CTV along with a Kenstar microwave for Rs24,990. Through these schemes, a buyer can save around Rs10,000. (gs)

BPL NETS Rs41 CR, TO PAY 25%

BPL Ltd (BPL) posted a net profit of Rs41.12 crore in the first half of 1998-99 (Rs33.26 crore in the first half of 1997-98). Its sales increased by 16.5 percent to Rs914.01 crore. It has declared an interim dividend of 25 percent. BPL recorded a 43.47 percent growth in the colour television market, 64.32 percent growth in the refrigerator market and 41.51 percent growth in the audio segment in the first half of 1998-99. In the second quarter of 1998-99, BPL posted a net profit of Rs19.68 crore on sales of Rs486.62 crore. BPL Display Devices Ltd, a subsidiary of BPL manufactured 300,000 colour picture tubes during October 1997- September 1998. (gs)
