Demographic changes are expected because the US population will grow faster than other industrial democracies, perhaps reaching 383 million by 2050. Current minorities will have a higher percentage of the population, but Asians and Hispanics will be more assimilated than blacks.

Most of the citizens of western democracies are dissatisfied with their government leaders. Often they have expressed their unhappiness by voting for political outsiders or not voting at all. The referendum is becoming a popular method of circumventing control by politicians.
