Pfizer readies four OTC drug brands for U.K. launch
Article Abstract:
Pfizer plans to double its sales of OTC medicines across the world to $1 billion by 2000, and as part of this strategy will probably launch OTC versions of a number of its prescription medicines in the UK during 1995. It is seeking a UK licence for an OTC version of its Feldene anti-arthritic drug, and hopes to launch the product in summer 1995 as an OTC topical analgesic. It has already received provisional approval for OTC versions of Atarax, an itching remedy, Diflucan, which treats vaginal thrush, and Combantin, which treats threadworms.

Denmark launches two investigations of OTC industry
Article Abstract:
Investigations ordered by the Danish Ministry of Health are under way into the purchasing and marketing practices of the country's over-the-counter drugs industry. One enquiry has been prompted by allegations from Danish consumer groups that Danmarks Apotekerforening (DAF), the Danish retail pharmacy association, may be contravening European Union competition rules. DAF's agreement with wholesale drugs firms requires OTC suppliers to reduce prices or their products will be removed from pharmacy shelves.
