Expansion strategy at Philips carries risk

As Philips Electronics aims to move into the medical equipment industry, largely through acquisitions, analysts warn that the consumer-electronics company could suffer from such a plan. In addition to having to compete in its expansion with such giants as General Electric and Siemens, Philips risks overpaying for the companies it acquires, say analysts, due to the current trend in high valuations of medical equipment firms.
