Planning christallerian landscapes: the current renaissance of central place studies in East Germany
Article Abstract:
The central place idea is still applied as an important instrument in spatial planning in Germany and central place relationships are now being studied in the new federal states of East Germany, describing normative central place systems. The inadequacies of the central place concept as a theory of economic space, a model for spatial description and analysis and as a planning strategy are apparent, but its abilities, however, should be considered as well.
