Polyster maker faces snags
Article Abstract:
The polyester industry of China has been seriously affected by the Asian currency crisis as Yizheng Chemical Fibre Co, the world's fourth largest manufacturer, experiences millions in losses. World polyester prices have fallen 60% since 1995 and have eaten away at the company's profits. The devaluation of currencies across the region have made prices of South Korean and Taiwanese products more competitive to the detriment of Yihzheng. Textile exports of China have decreased generally by 11% as a result of tighter competition.

Hong Kong's port deal puts politics in spotlight
Article Abstract:
Construction work on the Container Terminal 9 (CT9) project will finally proceed after the UK and Chinese governments resolved their dispute over the $1.2 billion facility. However, many in the local business community remain wary of Chinese politics and its potential impact on business decisions in post-1997 Hong Kong. The CT9 project had originally been scheduled to start in 1992 but the Chinese government blocked it for political reasons.
