Power to the people
Article Abstract:
The forthcoming deregulation of the UK domestic electricity market has been the main driving force behind strategies at ScottishPower since it was privatised in 1991, according to Finance Director Ian Russell. He feels that the company's experience in the domestic gas supply market in the south of the UK will be valuable as it prepares for the deregulation of the electricity market. It has given considerable attention to maximising efficiency at existing businesses, in sharp contrast to many recently privatised utility companies.

Digging for growth
Article Abstract:
Bristol-based Hydrex Group, distributor of heavy construction equipment, was founded in 1985 by its chief executive Brian Davies. In 1994, following several years of growth and activity in used equipment sales, contract leasing and short-term rental markets, Andrew Simcox was appointed as finance director to ready Hydrex for flotation. To meet this goal, Simcox, formerly corporate finance director at Price Waterhouse, acquired Kennet Plant Hire and PSE Machinery in 1995 and is working towards further expansion.
