Practical aspects of route planning for magazine and newspaper wholesalers
Article Abstract:
Mathematical models are used to provide solutions to the complex distribution problem encountered by magazine and newspaper wholesalers. The models are used to identify the specific characteristics of routing plans in the press wholesaling sector by analyzing the different parameters involved, such as the time structure, road system and delivery volume. Results suggest that regional clustering principles offer the most effective solution to the distribution problem of newspaper and magazine wholesalers.

Research was conducted to examine the production and distribution problems of a newspaper. The problems consist of the sequencing of production and vehicle departure times, the routing of vehicles, the location of distribution centers and drop-off points and allocating drop-off points to distribution centers. Results provide evidence of the dramatic impact on costs achieved by recycling the delivery trucks.
