Premia reach fever pitch

The number of bid premiums during the second quarter of 1999 reached 58, with the average premiums over the target share price one day before bid talks, or the offer, amounting to 49%, and one month after, reaching 54%. The survey's highest one day and one month premiums for the period are attributable to the 110 million pounds sterling acquisition of digital imaging firm, Wace Group.

Average premia in quiet first quarter

By comparison with 2000, there has been a slump in global mergers and acquisitions in the first quarter of 2001. The average premia received by shareholders is also decreasing.
