Article Abstract:
The secretary general of Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been convinced to stay in his post hours after he handed his resignation paper. Ekamol Khiriwat decided to resign following talks that the commission's board would resign en masse to make way for a cabinet revamp. Article Abstract:
Two ambitious projects have been lined up by Sondhi Limthongkul, who aspires to be Thailand's equivalent of US publishing tycoon Rupert Murdoch, to bolster his credibility. Sondhi also hopes to finally start publishing Asia Times, a regionwide newspaper, by Nov. 1995.

Thai plan to cut import duties will put heavy pressure on protected industries
Article Abstract:
Thailand has launched a two-year project that would increase free trade and reduce tariffs on many imported products. Average import taxe rates would be cut to only 17.01% as compared to the current 30.24%. Among the products that will experience such cuts are shoes, processed food and apparel which have hitherto been regarded as protected products. Nevertheless, the automobile, tobacco and alcohol industries have been spared from the import duty cuts.
