Prewar study offers timeless insights into culture clash
Article Abstract:
A substantial number of Asians are studying in Japanese universities today. This is by no means a new phenomenon as history shows that Japan had long been a destination of choice for Asian students, especially the Chinese, as far back as the late 19th century. The prejudice being experienced by Asian students today is also not new. Majority of Asians who studied in Japan prior to World War II developed fierce anti-Japanese sentiments because of the intolerable treatment they received from classmates, teachers and Japanese society in general.

He has been trained in European literature in foreign universities, which was a privilege accorded to China's elite.
