Price wars hurt profits of French supermarkets

A battle over national market share is reducing the profits of France's supermarkets, as more stores are resorting to discount promotions and price cutting. Major supermarket chains such as Casino Guichard-Perrachon et Cie., Carrefour SA, and the privately held company E. Leclerc and Auchan are affected.

Tesco to expand land sales to fund growth; profit rises 22%
Article Abstract:
UK-based retailer Tesco PLC has announced plans to sell off some of its real estate portfolio to raise $9.95 bil for funding future growth. Tesco owns approximately 80% to 85% of the land on which its stores are located, and intends to keep 70% company owned.
