Jardine raises its stake in EON, raising eyebrows
Article Abstract:
Jardine Strategic Malaysia Investment Pte. Ltd. has increased its stake in Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd. (EON) from 8.9% to 14% by acquiring an additional 12 million EON shares for approximately $114 million. The move has been perceived as an apparent challenge to Tan Sri Yahaya Ahmad, who holds an interest in EON through his Hicom Holdings Bhd.'s 30% ownership in EON. A source close to Tan Sri Yahaya noted that there will be no complications as long as Jardine continues to be a passive investor in EON.
