Putting America on wheels
Article Abstract:
The Ford Motor Co, set up by Henry Ford, launched the 'Model T' car in 1908, a car geared to the mass market, in contrast to many competitors, who sought to move upmarket. He bought in parts such as engines, and took advance payments, while being able to delay payments to suppliers. The production process has been broken up, and an assembly line introduced. This concept of mass production has had a major impact on the US, and on the development of the automobile industry.
