Functional foods
Article Abstract:
There is a growing trend in the UK towards 'functional' foods, which are claimed by manufacturers to offer added health value. They feature additional beneficial ingredients, rather than simply having unhealthy ingredients such as salt and sugar removed. It is important to remember that a basically unhealthy diet cannot simply be improved by eating one or several of these foods, as it is the overall balance of the diet which is important. In general, such foods do not offer any particular value.
